A national publication recognized all five McAllen ISD high schools among America’s best. They are:

  • Achieve Early College High School
  • McAllen Memorial High School
  • McAllen High School
  • James “Nikki” Rowe High
  • Lamar Academy

U.S. News & World Report publishes “Best High Schools Rankings 2019.”  This is the fifth straight year McAllen ISD has had high schools recognized by either U.S. News & World Report or The Washington Post.

“This confirms what we have known for a long time, namely that we have excellent students, teachers, and staff at these schools,” McAllen ISD Superintendent J.A. Gonzalez, Ed.D., said. “Our goal is to graduate students who are college and career ready and this shows that when our kids go through our system, they will be ready for the next level in their educational path.”

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on more than 23,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. More than 17,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Texas high school students are generally required to pass statewide tests in English, math, science and social studies courses to graduate. Additionally, students must earn at least 22 credits, including one credit of fine arts and four credits of English, according to the Texas Education Agency.
