ALAMO, Texas – The City of Alamo broke ground Thursday, February 5, 2026, on the new Chief Arturo Espinosa Public Safety Building, marking what city officials described as a continued investment in public safety infrastructure and services.

The facility will be built at 414 Professional Drive and will span approximately 19,849 square feet, with an additional 534 square feet designated for K-9 kennels, bringing the total footprint to more than 20,000 square feet. According to the city, the building is designed to support operational, administrative, and judicial functions while preparing for future growth.

Planned features include a public reception area, offices, restrooms, a dispatch room, a break area, a training room, secure file storage, locker rooms, evidence storage, a small armory, 10 holding cells, a courtroom, judge’s chambers, and other spaces to support police operations. The city stated the design balances high-security requirements with a de-institutionalized appearance to create a professional and accessible environment.

The building is designed for a maximum occupancy of approximately 173 people across business, institutional, and judicial spaces. City officials said the layout prioritizes efficiency, coordination, and functionality while allowing for flexibility to meet future needs.

“This project represents more than just a new building,” Mayor JR Garza said in a statement. “It is an investment in the safety of our residents and in the men and women who serve our community every day. This facility will ensure our public safety teams have the space, resources, and technology needed to operate efficiently and effectively.”

Construction is expected to take about 455 calendar days, or approximately 15 months, weather permitting. Major phases will include site preparation, foundation and structural work, enclosure of the building, interior build-out, installation of technology and life-safety systems, and exterior improvements such as parking, walkways, landscaping, and lighting. A grand opening and ribbon cutting are planned upon completion.

City leadership, public safety officials, project partners, and community members attended the ceremonial groundbreaking. Additional information on the timeline and construction progress will be shared as the project advances, according to the city.
