EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents arrest 104 subjects in three smuggling attempts.
Yesterday evening, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station agents in coordination with the Roma Police Department and the Starr County Sheriff’s Office received information of an abandoned house being used for human smuggling. Law enforcement authorities discovered fourteen adult subjects hiding within the home. While at the Roma, Texas, residence, a second report was received indicating the neighboring abandoned house was also being used for smuggling purposes. Authorities approached the house and discovered an additional ten illegally present adult migrants. The subjects are citizens of Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Nicaragua. No caretaker was identified.
Early this morning, Border Patrol agents utilizing a small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) observed a black Dodge Ram truck pick up several individuals north of the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. The information was relayed to Brooks County Sheriff’s Office deputies who attempted to perform a vehicle stop on east Highway 285. The vehicle immediately pulled over and several subjects attempted to abscond. A female driver and 4 migrants were apprehended. Two migrants showing signs of severe dehydration were transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Border Patrol took custody of all subjects.
Additionally, 75 subjects were discovered in a Mission, Texas, residence.
Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.
