FALFURRIAS, Texas â€” U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two subjects after a failed methamphetamine smuggling attempt at the Border Patrol Checkpoint.

On Sunday morning, agents working at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint referred a Chevrolet Equinox to the secondary inspection area following a K-9 alert. During the inspection, Customs and Border Protection Officers and agents discovered multiple bundles of methamphetamines hidden inside. The narcotics weighed more than 65 pounds and have an estimated street value of over $2.2 million.

Border Patrol arrested both occupants and turned the case over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
