McAllen, TX –Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. (AHSTI), one of the area’s largest non-profit affordable homeownership providers, has made several key staff promotions.
Myra L. Martinez has been promoted to Deputy Executive Director – Operations, and Ken DeJarnett has been promoted to Deputy Executive Director – Real Estate Services. Mrs. Martinez previously served as AHSTI’s Director of Operations and Communications since 2012, is a certified SHRM Certified Professional, and most recently awarded a certificate of completion for the NeighborWorks® Achieving Excellence Program with the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Mr. DeJarnett previously served as AHSTI’s Director of Real Estate Services since 2011, is a licensed Real Estate Broker and licensed residential mortgage loan originator and has over 40 years’ experience in real estate development, residential and commercial construction, real estate brokerage, and mortgage lending. He also manages four (4) of the AHSTI subsidiary entities.
Additional promotions include Tony Fernandez to Construction Manager, Alex L. Longoria to HR Generalist, Aidee B. Castro to Director of Homebuyer Development, Gloria Escamilla to Sr. Homebuyer Advisor, and Alejandro Ortiz and Claudia Salazar to Customer Journey Specialist.

In addition, on December 31, 2017, Sebastian Alfredo Munguia (otherwise known as Fred) will be retiring from Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. Fred leaves a 30 year legacy of impact in affordable housing across the Rio Grande Valley.
“It has been an honor to be a part of this great organization for all these years. It has made me a better person and the warm feeling I felt in my heart knowing I played a part in helping someone obtain a home is unexplainable,” said Mr. Munguia. “I will miss AHSTI very much and will never forget it. May the MISSION continue for many more years and God Bless!”
As Construction Director, and previously Construction Coordinator, Fred has managed the construction and rehabilitation of over 2,500 homes. “We would like to thank Fred for his dedication and hard work over these last 30 years,” states Brian Disque, AHSTI Board President. “It is rare that an organization has an employee with such longevity as Fred has. We are honored to have had him on our team and we bid a fond farewell to him and wish him a happy retirement.”
Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. is a local 41 year old non-profit organization that provides home ownership opportunities and education for working low-income families.
