EDINBURG, TX – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents with the assistance of local law enforcement officers encountered an unaccompanied Salvadoran child in Brownsville, Texas. They also arrested 34 individuals in multiple unrelated smuggling incidents.

Brownsville Police Department officers informed the Brownsville Border Patrol Station that they found a six-year-old boy alone at a local Wal-Mart. Agents responded and determined the child to be an unaccompanied juvenile migrant from El Salvador.  He was medically screened and in good health.  He was transported to a Border Patrol facility where he provided the agents contact information for an aunt in Houston, Texas. Authorities are investigating the incident.

As of the end of July, RGV agents have encountered more than 56K unaccompanied juvenile migrants this fiscal year.

RGV agents received information that a residence in Mission, Texas was harboring illegal migrants.  Agents responded to the location and encountered 20 adults illegally in the United States.  The migrants were identified as nationals of Central America and Mexico. No smugglers were identified at the location.

RGV agents again, received information of a residence in Weslaco, Texas, harboring illegal migrants.  Agents responded to the location with Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies and encountered 10 migrants identified as nationals of Central America and Mexico.  The agents and deputies also discovered a small amount of marijuana and a handgun.  Agents arrested a United States citizen at the residence for his role in harboring the migrants.  HCSO seized the marijuana and handgun.  Agents transported all individuals to the Weslaco Border Patrol Station for processing.

RGV agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a white Chevrolet Silverado north of Edinburg, Texas. The vehicle failed to yield and fled. The truck pulled over momentarily allowing several subjects to jump out and abscond into the brush nearby.  The driver was arrested without incident shortly after coming to a stop. Agents arrested two migrants from Mexico near the bailout. All subjects are being processed accordingly.
