In response to the recent heavy rainfall, Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres has launched vector control measures aimed at reducing mosquito populations and minimizing the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses in the area.
Starting Sunday, weather permitting (no wind, no rain), Precinct 4 will begin larvicide treatments and spraying in targeted locations, focusing on standing water in right-of-way areas. Additionally, today, Friday, crews across Precinct 4 will be treating standing water in assigned zones to prevent mosquito breeding. Spraying operations will be conducted at night when conditions are calm with no anticipated rain or wind.

“We strongly encourage residents to take action as well to help control mosquito populations and enhance our efforts,” stated Commissioner Torres.
Residents can help by taking the following precautions:
Remove standing water from yards, flower pots, birdbaths, gutters, and any clutter that could collect water or hinder drainage.
Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus when outdoors.
Wear long sleeves and pants during peak mosquito activity, especially at dawn and dusk.
Keep doors and windows closed or ensure they are properly screened to prevent mosquitoes from entering homes or businesses.
