EDINBURG, Texas – The 9th Annual Labor Day DWI “No Refusal Weekend” Kick-off Press Conference will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. The crackdown by municipal, county, and state law enforcement agencies will run from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2.
The press conference is hosted by Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios and representatives from Hidalgo County law enforcement agencies. Guest speaker and DWI survivor Analicia Zarate will give remarks on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
“As drivers hit the road to celebrate the Labor Day weekend, we want to remind residents that our law enforcement officers will also be on the road looking for impaired drivers,” said Palacios. “No Refusal weekend is a reminder that if Hidalgo County drivers are intoxicated and get behind the wheel, they will be arrested and charged.”
During the crackdown, anyone who refuses to provide a breath sample is subject to blood testing at the scene, a medical facility, or the nearest jail facility. “We must all work together to stop the drinking and driving epidemic that makes our roads unsafe,” Palacios said.
Along with assistance from the Hidalgo County Health Department nurses, magistrates will be on hand to issue search warrants and health care workers will be on stand-by for the blood work.
