PHARR, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) is celebrating a historic milestone, with a record 82% of its teachers earning official Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) designations. To mark this achievement, hundreds of teachers and their families gathered on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at PSJA Stadium for a celebratory rally.
PSJA ISD’s continued success under TIA aligns with the district’s broader academic progress, including sustained gains in student performance.

“Our teachers are the foundation of student success, and this investment reflects our commitment to supporting them,” said Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “Through the Teacher Incentive Allotment, we can recruit, retain, and reward exceptional educators while continuing to deliver high-quality instruction for all students. We appreciate the continued support of our campus leaders, district team, and School Board of Trustees.”
Campus leaders and district administrators also attended the special recognition event. Each designated teacher received a commemorative yard sign and decal in recognition of their distinction.
PSJA Pathways Toward Independence teacher Sarah Gonzalez, a Master TIA honoree, shared her excitement during the celebration.
“I feel honored, I feel excited. I feel inspired,” said Gonzalez. “I want to continue making everyone proud here at PSJA. I could not have done it without all the support from my family, my peers, and my leadership.”

This year’s historic 82% designation rate marks a significant increase from 72% last year, reflecting the district’s continued commitment to recognizing and rewarding instructional excellence. Since the 2022–2023 school year, the Teacher Incentive Allotment has generated nearly $87 million in additional compensation for PSJA ISD educators. The latest round of designations alone is expected to generate more than $35 million during the current school year, with projections exceeding $222 million over the next five years, delivering a substantial and lasting economic impact across the Rio Grande Valley.
Established through House Bill 3 during the 86th Texas Legislature, the Teacher Incentive Allotment creates a pathway for outstanding educators to earn six-figure salaries while remaining in the classroom. Designations are awarded at three levels: Recognized, Exemplary, and Master, with allotments varying based on campus socioeconomic factors and rural status.
The most recent approval includes 1,716 new and higher teacher designations, with more than 345 educators already earning six-figure salaries.
Each year, TEA processes new and higher teacher designations through a rigorous validation system, including external review by Texas Tech University, to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with state standards.
PSJA ISD remains committed to strengthening its designation system, expanding opportunities for educators to achieve the highest levels of recognition, and ensuring every student benefits from high-quality instruction in every classroom.
