44 Unaccompanied Children Encountered by Border Patrol Near the Rio Grande

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents encountered two large groups of illegal aliens.

Yesterday, McAllen Border Patrol agents working near Penitas, Texas, encountered a group of 99 illegal aliens shortly after they made entry into the United States.  The group consisted of 78 family members and 20 unaccompanied alien children (UACs).  Six of the UACs in this group were under the age of 13.

This morning, Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents working near La Grulla, Texas, encountered a group of 132 illegal aliens. This group consisted of 107 family members and 24 UACs.  Border Patrol agents continue seeing an increase in UAC encounters along the border.  This fiscal year, RGV has seen a 114% increase in UAC apprehensions compared to the same time frame last year.

Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly.
