WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced $4,750,000 in grant funding was awarded to Hidalgo County for Homeland Security’s FY 2019 Operation Stonegarden (OPSG). OPSG seeks to provide funds to enhance cooperation among state, local, tribal, territorial and federal law enforcement in joint coordination to secure the United States’ borders in states bordering Mexico and Canada.

The OPSG Program provides $90 million for improved security along routes of ingress including travel corridors and international waters.

“This funding is critical to continue operational and technological readiness of our border security apparatus,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Our border communities remain among the safest in the state of Texas and the nation because of the resources we provide to our law enforcement personnel. These funds will help increase our capabilities to prevent and protect against any border security threat we may face.”
