BROWNSVILLE, TX (February 5, 2024) – The City of Brownsville is proud to announce its Mayor and CityCommission have been named the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Texas City Management Association (TCMA) City Council of the Year Award. This esteemed accolade is awarded annually to recognize andhonor an outstanding Texas city (councils) commission that has made significant contributions to its local governance and the community it serves.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment, innovative leadership, and collaborative spirit our City Commission has demonstrated in steering our community towards excellence,” said Helen Ramirez, AICP, Brownsville City Manager. “Under their guidance, our City is experiencing aneconomic development boom, improved public services, and enhanced quality of life for all residents. Weare very proud of our City Commission for their many accomplishments and grateful for their tireless efforts to advance our City forward.”
In accordance with TCMA requirements for recognition, the selection of Brownsville’s city commission underscores its dedication to ethical governance, prioritization of the public welfare over personal and political agendas, effective policy making, financial prudence, support for professional development, and the fostering of harmonious relations among commission members. In addition, the commission’sunwavering commitment to enhancing community awareness and fostering positive community relationshas set a benchmark for municipal leadership.
The nomination was sent to Region 10 of the Texas City Management Association. The TCMA selected the Brownsville City Commission for its extraordinary leadership accomplishments and their holistic approach to serving the Brownsville community.
