Hidalgo County Wellness Program Coordinator Diana Huallpa presented the court with the winners of the 2019 Employee Wellness Challenge.
“We truly value your dedication and effort towards a healthier lifestyle,” said Huallpa.
The Employee Wellness Challenge began in August 2019. Employees formed teams and were weighed-in. During the 16 week event, they took part in a series of fitness challenges. At the end of the challenge, the employees were measured again to determine who lost the highest percentage of weight.
The top two winners were Joe Garcia with the District Attorney’s Office Juvenile and Civil Division, and Maria Perez with Drainage District #1. They both talked about their journey and experience completing the Employee Wellness Challenge.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get well,” said Garcia, who has lost a total of 50 pounds from diet and exercise.Â
“This experience has built a sense of community for me,” said Perez. “I went into this challenge with a goal, and I recently completed my first 5k.”
Huallpa also recognized a group of county employees who regularly attend fitness classes at the Precinct 2 Indoor Sports Complex for their commitment.Â
Commissioners Court congratulates all the employees as they continue on their fitness and health journey.
