The City of McAllen held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the 2018 bond election traffic improvement projects, which included improved traffic signals and timing study at various intersections throughout McAllen.

In 2018, the citizens of McAllen were presented with a survey to help determine improvements the City of McAllen could invest in to improve quality of life. Among these concerns were traffic congestion on major corridors and signal malfunctions. In response to the traffic concerns, the City of McAllen proposed the 2018 Bond Election that allocated three million dollars towards traffic improvements.

Once the bond was passed, the Traffic Operations Department allocated the funding for 150 new traffic signal cabinets, with fiber or Wi-Fi communication at the signal cabinets and traffic signal timing studies along major corridors.
