Event starts Dec 5 at 6pm, all at Art Village on Main

Texas Border Business met with Yoli Cantu of Art Village on Main and Lisa Saenz Saldivar with the McAllen School District. Both have committed to start “A Season of Hope Arts Festival” event this year for the first time.
According to Lisa, Season of Hope Art Festival is an event that invites artist to come in and show their original artwork with the community. She said, “We have artists that create jewelry, paintings or others that work with glass, there are many categories that they come and participate and celebrate the arts.”
The event will include artwork from children with the McAllen ISD, from kinder garden to high school. Yoli said that this will be two exciting events starting on Friday December 5, 2014 with the traditional lighting of the Christmas three at Art Village on Main.
The same night artwork from children will be on display. The following day on Saturday morning December 6 there will be the presentation of awards. Yoli said, “We are going to have Best of artwork from the children’s work.” In addition she said, “From 10am to 3 pm the exhibit will be open to the public, the artist will have their artwork displayed and will offer some of the artwork available for sale.”
The organizers of the event brilliantly are tying the 1st Annual “A Season of Hope Arts Festival” with the scheduled ArtWalk event.
Every first Friday of the months between September and May, the city of McAllen comes alive with the vibrant, passionate culture of its residents in an event known as the ArtWalk on Main Street, precisely where you can find Art Village on Main a 30,000 square foot complex that is home to art studios, galleries and art firms in addition to restaurants.
Yoli hopes that “A Season of Hope Arts Festival “event will become a popular attraction for both the community and visitors alike as a way to come together and rejoice in their shared passion for art and culture.
Lisa also pointed out that the goal is for every campus of the McAllen ISD to be represented in this ‘Season of Hope Art Festival” which includes elementary, middle and high schools.
It will be fun; there will be artist demonstrating how art is created. Yoli said, “Also the dance school Susy’s Dance and Fitness will be performing for the public.
Yoli and Lisa said that any proceeds from this event will be used for scholarships.

And fine craft as well as diversity among media. Ceramics, Digital Art; Drawing: Fiber; Glass; Jewelry; Metalworks; Mixed Media: Painting; Photography; Printmaking and Wood.
Rules of the Show
- All work must be original, hand-crafted work by the artist.
- Work done by a production studio is not acceptable.
- No more than two artists may collaborate on work. Both artists must be
included on the application. Both must sign the application and be present
at the Arts Festival.
- Artists must be present with their work for the entire day of the Arts Festival.
- Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the panel. All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work that are presented with the application.
- Absolutely no reproductions are allowed.
