The lighting of the Christmas tree at 6:00 p.m. at the Art Village on Main in McAllen’s Art District Friday, December 5, will kick off the two-day holiday event henceforth known as A Season of Hope Arts Festival. This event will celebrate Arts in the Rio Grande Valley and encourage young people in our community to pursue a career in the Arts.
Following the lighting of the tree, the community is invited to visit the Event Center at the Art Village on Main, where artwork created by McAllen ISD students in grades K-12 will be on display until 9:00 p.m. This exhibit will be held in conjunction with McAllen’s December ArtWalk. McAllen High School’s nationally recognized mariachi group, Mariachi Oro, will be performing at the exhibit.
A Season of Hope Arts Festival will continue Saturday, December 6, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m. Once again, the MISD student artists’ work will be on display at the Event Center at the Art Village on Main. In the courtyard, professional artists will be selling their masterpieces of jewelry, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and other media. These artists had to go through a month-long selection process before being chosen for this first annual event. All of their works of art for sale at A Season of Hope Arts Festival are original, hand-crafted pieces.
The South Texas Clay Club will have a clay wheel at A Season of Hope Arts Festival and will be throwing clay. There will be other art demonstrations, as well. In celebration of the Art of music, the Navarro Elementary Guitar Ensemble will be performing.
Proceeds from the professional artists’ application fee and the selected artists’ booth fees will create a scholarship for one McAllen ISD student who plans to study art in college. In addition, 12 MISD students whose artwork is on display at the event will be awarded Best in Show (two in each category). Cantu Construction in McAllen will provide each of these students with a scholarship for art supplies.
The 1st Annual A Season of Hope Arts Festival—a new McAllen holiday tradition, celebrating education and the Arts.
