IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS – For the 16th consecutive year, IDEA college preparatory schools in the Rio Grande Valley were ranked among the 2024 best performing high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. This annual list of rankings reflects the rigor and success of our commitment to our students on the road to college and in life.
In U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 ranking of best high schools in the nation released this week, 16 IDEA high schools in the Rio Grande Valley received rankings on the list, with IDEA McAllen College Preparatory ranking #1 in the city of McAllen. In addition, five IDEA RGV schools are ranked within the top national 1%, including IDEA McAllen College Prep, IDEA Quest College Prep, IDEA Frontier College Prep, IDEA Alamo College Prep and IDEA Riverview College Prep.
This expansive edition ranks more schools across America than ever before, evaluating nearly 25,000 public high schools on how well they serve all their students, regardless of economic or ethnic background.

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college: College Readiness (30%); College Curriculum Breadth (10%); State Assessment Proficiency (20%); State Assessment Performance (20%); Graduation Rate (10%); Underserved Student Performance (10%).
