McALLEN, Texas – The Hidalgo County GOP would like to acknowledge and congratulate Aaron Peña, our newly sworn-in Justice for the 13th Court of Appeals. Peña was sworn in on New Year’s Day, being joined by many family members, supporters, and local elected officials.

Aaron Peña is a former member of the Texas House of Representatives, whose Hidalgo county district stretched along the Texas/Mexico border. In that capacity, he served as the Chairman of the Committee of Criminal Jurisprudence, the Chairman of the Committee of Technology, and as Chairman of the Select Committee on Emergency Preparedness. After his retirement from the Texas House of Representatives, Peña served in the legal divisions of the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas General Land Office. On October 4, 2021, Peña filed paperwork to begin his candidacy to be a Justice on the 13th Court of Appeals.

In his closing remarks, Aaron Peña said, “You have disagreements, but they aren’t personal. Those of us in the political realm can learn from that. The way this community advances is by loving each other and following the rules and instructions by the Lord, that we may love one another.”

Republicans are making huge gains in South Texas, election by election we continue to make history. “Elections in the Rio Grande Valley have been one sided for decades,” says Robert Cantu, a McAllen Attorney. “Recent elections have brought a much needed and improved political balance to the region. Hopefully that momentum continues.” The Hidalgo GOP is motivated and looking forward to continuing to serve the community, help bring growth, opportunity, and prosperity to South Texas.

Candidates are welcome to send release and photo(s) of their sworn-in ceremonies.
