EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios, in collaboration with Region One ESC and the Texas Council on Family Violence will host the 10th Annual Young Hearts Matter Teen Dating Violence Prevention event on February 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Region One ESC located at 1900 W. Schunior St. in Edinburg.
The event will include a youth rally, a self-defense class for teens, painting class for self-care, prevention education information, a community fair, and guest speakers from local and county stakeholders.
In addition to the DA, speakers include Dr. Daniel King of Region One ESC; Texas Council of Family Violence Prevention Director Roy Rios; Yovann Salinas, Director of Counseling and Mental Health Department. DA Victims Unit Director Rosie Martinez will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Various agencies, non-profit organizations, and law enforcement representatives will participate in the informational fair. Students will attend various prevention education sessions, and refreshments will be available. The event is free and open to the public. All attendees are encouraged to bring their teen dating violence prevention posters and wear orange.
The opening ceremony of the event will be live streamed on the Hidalgo County Facebook page starting at 9 a.m. The public can view the live stream at www.facebook.com/HidalgoCounty.
