EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently announced that 10 of its campuses have been named to the 2018-2019 national Honor Roll, which recognizes high-performing, achievement gap-closing schools.
“We are honored to receive these national recognitions for the fourth consecutive year,” ECISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez said. “We thank all of our students, parents, teachers, staff, board members and the community for their hard work in helping us to continue to receive these awards for our high academic achievements.”
According to the Educational Results Partnership (ERP), the Honor Roll program is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. Approximately, 2,700 schools were selected from California and Texas.
The 10 Edinburg CISD campuses, which are among 855 Texas public schools being honored, include Austin Elementary School, Canterbury Elementary School, Cavazos Elementary School, De Escandon Elementary School, Flores-Zapata Elementary School, Hargill Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School, San Carlos Elementary School, South Middle School and Trevino Elementary School.
Five of the schools with higher performance in science, technology, engineering and math were also recognized with a special STEM designation. They are Canterbury, De Escandon, Flores-Zapata, Jefferson and Trevino elementary schools.
“ERP is all about improving educational equity and promoting career readiness for all students, regardless of their family income, background or ZIP code,” said James Lanich, Ph.D., ERP president and CEO. “These Honor Roll schools and districts are living proof that our students can succeed when schools are committed to removing educational obstacles and accelerating student success.”
ERP, which developed the Honor Roll program, is a nonprofit organization that applies data science to help improve student outcomes and career readiness. ERP maintains the nation’s largest database on student achievement and utilizes this data to identify higher-performing schools and districts.
“The Honor Roll is the only school and district recognition program in Texas based solely on objective achievement data,” said Marilyn Reznick, ERP board chair. “Our goal is to guide other educators to data-informed best practices for raising student achievement.”
