McAllen, TX (December 17, 2014) – A special holiday gift came early to the South Texas College Valley Scholars Program as Wells Fargo Bank presented a $5,000 check in support of the college’s high-achieving students. “Supporting education is a top priority for Wells Fargo, and we’re pleased to have provided a $5,000 grant to South Texas College’s Valley Scholar’s Program,” said Alma Ortega Johnson, Wells Fargo area president for South Texas.  “Education is everyone’s business.  Whether you operate a supermarket chain or corner produce stand, a shopping mall or a shoe repair shop, the success of your company depends in large part on the quality of our schools.  This is why we’re proud to collaborate with STC to help support these talented students,” said Ortega Johnson. The Valley Scholars Program recruits South Texas College students who graduated within the top 10% of their high school class and offers support services in scholarships, advisement, registration, and participation in the STC Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society. Over the past 17 years, more than 700 participants matriculated to either STC’s own bachelor programs or transferred to other premiere universities.
