It takes place at 9 am Saturday, Sept. 26, and will be viewable on McAllen ISD’s Facebook page.

We are encouraging kids and parents to upload short videos or photos of themselves performing exercises like running and to share them with the community. They can also win prizes. We have about 2,500 kids registered so far but we want as many as possible.

Here is where kids can register: www.mcallenkidsmarathon.com

This event is open to kids in grades pre-kinder through 8th grade. Kids do not have to be from McAllen to sign up. It is open to all kids.

The event on McAllen ISD’s Facebook page will feature goodwill messages from McAllen ISD Superintendent Dr. J.A. Gonzalez, McAllen Mayor Jim Darling and McAllen Chief of Police Victor Rodriguez. There will also be highlights from previous Kids Marathon events to inspire everyone. The event began in 2014.

We are encouraging kids to run one mile this Saturday. During the fall, they will log approximately 24 additional miles while working with their PE coaches. They will complete their 26.2-mile marathon when they run their last mile at the McAllen Kids Marathon final mile event on Saturday, January 16, 2021. It is not yet known if this will be a live or virtual event.
