Smuggler Abandons more than $550K Worth of Narcotics

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents disrupted a narcotic smuggling attempt.

On Tuesday, Fort Brown agents working near Brownsville, Texas, observed a vehicle near the Rio Grande who agents suspected having been ferried across the river. The vehicle then attempted to flee the area and upon seeing agents, the driver turned the vehicle around and drove back to the river. As the vehicle arrived to the river, the driver bailed out and absconded to Mexico. A search of the vehicle revealed 41 bundles of marijuana weighing over 710 pounds worth nearly $569K.
