Engineers will be conducting Falling Weight Deflectometer testing

PHARR – The Texas Department of Transportation announces that there will be overnight closures of the westbound traffic of Interstate 2 near the I69C interchange (including the west to north flyover that connects I-2 to I69C) because engineers will be collecting falling weight deflectometer testing on the interchange.
During this testing, a weight is lifted to a given height on a guide system and then dropped onto a load plate which is placed on the pavement surface. By varying the weight dropped and the height of drop, the impulse force can be varied. The impulse devices produce a pavement loading that is similar in magnitude, shape and duration to that produced by a moving wheel load.
Interstate 2 will be closed in two sections. The first section to be tested will be the westbound lanes of Interstate 2 between Cesar Chavez to Cage Blvd. The flyover that connects the westbound lanes of I-2 to the northbound lanes of I-69C will also be temporarily closed.
Once the first set of data is gathered, the second section-between Cage Blvd to Jackson Road- will be temporarily closed for data gathering.
This data collection will be conducted tonight Tuesday October 9, 2018 between 11:00PM-6:00AM
