Fire Chief Tirso Garza gave a presentation to the City Commission regarding the proactive steps the city is taking to prepare for the 2019 Hurricane Season. He announced that the city has prepared sandbags, high profile vehicles, and memorandums of understanding and interlocal agreements with several cities and agencies for pumping machines and other equipment, should they be needed in case of flooding or other emergencies.
Mayor Mario Garza and Commissioners have also asked to schedule an Emergency Preparedness Meeting for city officials and emergency responders to go over the city’s emergency response plan and outreach efforts. San Juan recently partnered with Hidalgo County Precinct 2 for a community “Dare to Prepare Fair,” where city officials shared information with citizens regarding hurricane preparedness.
“We want to let our residents know that the City of San Juan is ready, prepared, and actively monitoring this hurricane season,” said Chief Garza. “Everything is in place and we will keep our residents updated should any emergency event arise,” he added.
