BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC) has named Mr. Jerry Briones as its new Director of International Business & Industrial Park Development. Mr. Briones has over ten years of combined experience directing global outreach, sales, business recruitment, business development, retention, expansion, and workforce.  

The Director of International Business & Industrial Park Development is a new position that will be responsible for GBIC’s International business and development company recruitment, expansion and workforce efforts in Mexico, Canada and abroad. This position is responsible for fostering strong collaborative relationships with Matamoros and other strategic manufacturing hubs throughout Mexico.

He’ll be a valuable resource for site selectors and companies alike,” said John Cowen Jr., GBIC’s Chairman and City of Brownsville Commissioner At-Large “A”.  

“Mr. Briones’ work experience and training make him a great asset to our team. We look forward to the growth he will accomplish for the Brownsville community beginning with the development of GBIC’s 730-acre future industrial park on I-169,” said Constanza Miner, GBIC’s Interim Executive Director & CEO.  

Jerry Briones is a former United States Marine Corps Sergeant, a communications major from the University of Texas at Brownsville, previously licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance, and has completed extensive training in various fields of economic development. He has previously served as the Business Development & Partnership Manager for VTX1 Companies, as the Executive Director of Workforce Training & Continuing Education for the Texas State Technical College, as the Director of Business Recruitment for the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, and as the Director of Global Outreach and Development for the Brownsville Economic Development Council. Additionally, Mr. Briones has led and participated in multiple boards and advisory committees including the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.

GBIC is a non-profit organization, Type-A Economic Development Corporation, effectively working as the City of Brownsville’s economic development arm. Its news release says the group seeks to promote economic growth in Brownsville and Cameron County by empowering a young and skilled intergenerational workforce that drives innovation to the area. It facilitates economic growth by promoting investment and working with regional and international partners with job creation, training, innovation, business development, and manufacturing.
