EDINBURG, Texas – On February 6, 2024 Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres and the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court joined together in celebration of the extraordinary life of Petra Pardo Salinas, who marked her 100th birthday milestone, with a proclamation presented in court. The proclamation, issued by the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, recognized and honored the remarkable journey of Petra Pardo Salinas, a beloved member of our community.

Petra Pardo Salinas has dedicated her entire century-long life to the values of love, resilience, and commitment. Born on January 31, 1924, in Edinburg, Texas, to Encarnacion Pardo, Sr. and Catalina Beltran Pardo, Petra has been a beacon of strength and inspiration to her family and friends. Married to Lorenzo Salinas, Jr., Petra is the proud parent of three children, Lorenzo Salinas Jr., Norma Salinas Rodriguez, and Ricardo Salinas. She is also blessed with 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

As an inaugural resident of the historic El Tule community, Petra has witnessed the evolution of our society firsthand. Throughout the past century, she has seen and experienced pivotal historical events, including the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, and the technological revolution.

Petra Pardo Salinas has not only witnessed history but has actively participated in shaping it. Her resilience and determination during challenging times, including the recent COVID-19 pandemic, serve as a testament to her strength of character.

Therefore, on this auspicious occasion, the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court proudly proclaimed its honor and congratulated Petra Pardo Salinas.  Accepting her proclamation on her behalf were her children, sister and several family members.
