PHARR, TX –The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is currently performing a mandatory yearly inventory count of product. Inventory is the foundation of operations, planning distributions, and the receiving of food. This process will be conducted over one week to ensure the count is accurate and will enable the Food Bank RGV to more efficiently and effectively serve the community.
Due to the mandatory inventory, there will not be a Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) distribution on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Food Bank RGV but will resume on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 7am to 10am (at its new date and time) or until capacity is reached.
As a result of a rise in cases and out of an abundance of caution, beginning, July 1, 2020, the Food Bank RGV, will merge its ‘Seniors only’ and general public distributions into one distribution on Wednesdays at the onsite location at 724 N. Cage Blvd in Pharr, TX from 7am – 10am or until capacity is reached.
Distributions will continue to follow the Food Bank RGV’s mobile model with little or no contact. Staff and members of the Texas Army National Guard will place shelf-stable bags of food and other commodities into the vehicle trunks of attendees, which must be empty and clear. Food will be placed inside the vehicle.
Anyone from any city in need of food assistance may attend the Drive Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) once, within a 30 day period. There is a limit of 2 families (2 people) per car to receive assistance. Face coverings, ID, and proof of address are required for all vehicles. Distribution will be first come, first served.
