Edinburg, TX  – The Food Bank RGV will be holding a MASS Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 7:00am – 11:00am, or until capacity is reached. This large scale event will enable the Food Bank RGV to distribute up to 5x more food than the normal weekly onsite food bank DTEP and help support and stabilize families impacted by the recent drastic winter storm.

This is the third mass food distribution that the Food Bank RGV will host for the general public since the onset of the pandemic. “With the unprecedented continued rise in Covid-19 positive cases, into 2021, our approach to fighting hunger and supporting families in need must continue to be aggressive and proactive. We realize our weekly DTEPs alone cannot fully meet the ever rising demand. Our MASS distributions, made possible by the incredible support of the Bert Ogden Arena, City of Edinburg, and our generous sponsors, allow us to reach more people than ever in a single day and have a stronger frontline response to feeding those in need,” Stuart Haniff, CEO Food Bank RGV said.

The MASS DTEP will follow the Food Bank RGV’s drive-thru mobile model, with little or no contact. Staff, volunteers, city staff, and members of the Texas Army National Guard will assist with the distribution of food. Produce and shelf-stable bags of food will be placed into the vehicle trunks of attendees.

This one-day only, MASS Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP) replaces the Food Bank RGV’s regularly scheduled DTEP for this week only. Onsite distributions will resume next Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Food Bank RGV at their normal time from 7:00am – 10:00am, or until capacity is reached.

Anyone in need of assistance, from any city,  may attend the distribution. There will be a limit of 2 families (2 people) per car to receive assistance. ID and proof of address are required. All vehicle occupants must wear face coverings and car trunks must be empty. Distribution will be first come, first served. Please follow the flow of traffic and direction from police officers and use the entrance accessible through Alberta Rd.

For more information on sponsoring a distribution, please contact Philip Farias at 956-904-4513.
