Texas Border Business

COSMOS WORKSPACE is hosting several live painting performances and inviting local artists to participate in their cultural events at their coworking location in McAllen, Texas. During their weekly Neighborhood Market, they will feature several artists in a live “throw down”. Every event will give each artist the opportunity to showcase their talents and give the community a chance to vote for their favorite artwork. All proceeds will benefit the artists, the gallery and a community mural.

The HOST:

Cosmos has a blank wall facing Laurel Avenue with views from the hustle and bustle of 10th Street at the Las Palmas Shopping Center. Cosmos is the largest tenant in the facility and it prides itself in building a healthy & cultural community, supporting creative entrepreneurial events and helping launch startup businesses with low-cost virtual offices and a shared communal workspace.

The MURAL:

The live painting events called “DRAWING INSPIRATION for a Mural” will be preludes to the larger more visible art piece. The meaning behind the mural will represent what Cosmos represents. Cosmos is not only the universe we live in, but also a local flower that attracts butterflies (the inspired logo, namesake and metaphor for attracting creative entrepreneurs to thrive and work in harmony).

The ARTISTS:

Starting on Saturday May 22nd at 10am till 2pm the artists will set up their easels with a 4’ x 4’ sheet of plywood and start painting whatever comes to mind. Their creative juices will start flowing and the crowd will start voting by offering money in their bowls. The artist with the most money will win each “throw down”. Artists are encouraged to invite their following. The finished artwork will also have a price for purchase with an auction ending at 4pm. Each piece will be showcased inside the Cosmos Gallery for patrons to learn from and appreciate. The gallery is free and open to the public.

The CAUSE:

After several live painting performances over a 3 month period and assuming the funds have been raised to hire a muralist, an artist will be announced on September 16th, 2021 to paint the new Cosmos Community Mural. The mural should be a “neighborhood” collaborative endeavor in an effort to build a healthy and cultural community that inspires the philosophy and collaborative principles that Cosmos Workspace aspires for McAllen.

Artists wanting to participate should contact or visit Cosmos Workspace at 1200 N. 10th Street, Suite E McAllen, Texas 78501 (956) 627-0301
