Today, the City of Pharr announced that it is joining the City of McAllen’s lawsuit against the State of Texas filed earlier this week.

The lawsuit filed by the City of McAllen challenges an unconstitutional provision of the Texas Election Code which requires Hidalgo County to administer certain local elections.

“The City of McAllen believes that law does not protect our residents’ rights or the integrity of our elections, which are among the City’s highest priorities,” stated Isaac Tawil, McAllen City Attorney.  “Furthermore, the City of McAllen is pleased to see another municipality fighting to protect the integrity of local elections and voters’ rights across the region.”
