Blind tennis tourney to be held in Mission

Mission is the only RGV city to offer blind tennis program

Mission, TX – Players from around the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo and Mexico will hit the courts at the Boys & Girls Club of Mission Bannworth Unit for the International Blind Tennis Association Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.

As many as 20 players between the ages of 8 and 26 who are blind or partially sighted will compete in this unique competition.  The Boys & Girls Club of Mission is the only program offering this remarkable sport in South Texas.

Blind tennis is an extremely skilled form of sport. It is played on a standard tennis court and players locate the ball by the sound made by a bell in the middle of the foam ball. The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact the Boys & Girls Club of Mission at 956-585-3606.
