UTRGV Women’s Basketball Adds Pair Of Games At Southern Utah

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that the women's basketball team will face Southern Utah University on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at America First Event Center.

Senator Hinojosa Ready for 87th Legislative Session

AUSTIN – On January 12, Texas lawmakers assembled in the State Capitol for the first day of the 87th Legislative Session. Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa representing Brooks, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, and Nueces Counties, was sworn in for another term in the Texas Senate.

The Jalapeno RGV Amateur is one of only 3 Amateurs that are held in the Rio Grande Valley. This tournament promises to be an exciting event that will be a shadow of the professional Futures Women's golf tournament that the RGV Hispanic Chamber used to host.

Nine deaths related to COVID-19 reported in Hidalgo County along with 637 positive cases

Hidalgo County uses the case status definition provided by the Texas Department of State Health Service’s 2020 Epi Case Criteria Guide revised November 2020. 1. Confirmed: A person who has tested positive through a molecular or PCR (oral or nasal swabs) test that looks for the presence of the virus’s genetic material. 2. Probable: A person who meets presumptive laboratory evidence through detection of COVID-19 by antigen test in a respiratory specimen. 3. Suspect: A person who meets supported laboratory evidence through detection of specific antibodies in serum, plasma, whole body, and no prior history of being confirmed or probable case.

Editorial: Rural Texas Prepares for the Legislative Session

As 2021 gets underway, so too will the 87th Texas Legislative Session, and this one promises to be unlike any other in recent history. The coronavirus threat will loom large, dramatically changing both the topics considered by lawmakers and the process by which they do so. Legislators will likely spend much of the 140-day session working on public health issues directly related to COVID-19, but the virus will also shape other issues, including the state’s budget. The Texas Constitution requires that the legislature pass a balanced budget, and with coronavirus-related shortfalls in tax revenue projected, it will not be an easy task.

Dr. Hochman Announces Winners Of Nineteenth Annual Education Grants

Laredo, Texas –– In an effort to enhance the public education of Laredoans, Dr. Michael A. Hochman, the local retina surgeon and ophthalmologist, has endowed monies to fund The Nineteenth Annual Rochelle and Sidney Hochman Educational Support Grant, available for local public-school teachers in both the Laredo Independent School District and the United Independent School District.

County schedules community COVID-19 vaccine clinic in San Juan

EDINBURG – Hidalgo County health officials, in conjunction with Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD, will be hosting a community COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Wednesday and Thursday, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said.

Judicial Watch announced today it obtained three videos of body cam footagefrom the Montgomery County, MD, Police Department (MCPD) detailing the scene of the fatal shooting of Duncan Socrates Lemp earlier in 2020. The videos show the covered body of Mr. Lemp; detained individuals in the house; and various weapons found at the scene. Judicial Watch blurred images of occupants of the house who appear in the video to protect their privacy.
