The Pharr Community Theater will have auditions for 7 boys and 7 girls ranging in ages 8 to 17 for A Tejano Christmas Carol, adapted by Pedro Garcia from the original Charles Dickens story and set in the RGV.

“All roles will be played by children and teens and the play will be fun, unique and suitable for all ages to come and enjoy once the show goes up in early December.” said PCT artistic director Pedro Garcia.

Seres Jaime Magaña will direct.

“He’s directed the play twice with an adult and youth cast combined and is very good working with all ages and especially with kids. He’s gonna have an entertaining show for us this Christmas,” added Garcia.

In this version Scrooge becomes Mr. Gread, with an a, a water broker and lawyer from the RGV. He’s so greedy, pardon the pun, that he sells nearly all his water rights from the river creating a local catastrophe, that’s if the three spirits can’t stop him in time.

Auditions will be cold-reading from the script on Tuesday Oct. 12 and on Wednesday Oct 13 between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., on a first come first serve basis, at the theater, 213 W Newcombe Ave. in Pharr, No appointment necessary. Sign up to audition once you arrive. Covid safety will be practiced and encouraged.

Rehearsals will start on Monday Oct. 18 at the theater at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will run Monday’s thru Thursdays in person and online combined until opening night on Dec 9., with brief time off in between including for Thanksgiving.
