Palmview, TX –  As the deadline to complete the 2020 Census looms, officials in Western Hidalgo County have joined forces to ensure that the communities and families are accurately counted. The Agua Special Utility District (SUD) will be hosting a Census Rally Drive-By and Telethon in collaboration with the City of Palmview, the City of Peñitas, the City of La Joya, Sullivan City, La Joya ISD, Hidalgo County Precinct 3, and representatives from the United States Census to ensure that everyone in the west is counted.

The event will take place from 8 am to 6 pm on Friday, September 25, 2020, at Agua SUD (3120 Abrams RD) in Palmview. There will be media availability at 9:30 am with officials from the partnering entities as well as from the U. S. Census available for interviews.

“The Census 2020 deadline has been moved up earlier than anticipated to September 30th and we want to make every effort to ensure that our communities are counted,” said Lloyd A. Loya, Agua SUD Board President. “Federal funding to our respective communities is dependent on the census count and over the last ten years, we have seen expansive growth in our communities,” he added. “We invite everyone who hasn’t filled out their 2020 Census to join us and complete their census,” he said.

Census representatives will be available to help families complete their census from the safety of their vehicles. For those who cannot make it to the Drive-By event, there will also be a Telethon Call-In where families can call-in and complete their census over the phone. Those wishing to participate in the Telethon can call in to (956) 358-8835 or (956) 585-1516 to complete their census.

Food, drinks, and raffles giveaways such as electronics, gift cards, and more, will be available throughout the event for those who complete their census at the rally.

Media and the public are invited to attend.
