The 2016 Mid Valley Lighted Christmas Parade will take place in Downtown Weslaco on Saturday, December 10 at 6:30 pm, and will honor Weslaco’s finest as the parade grand marshals.  The Weslaco Police and Fire Departments will be the parade’s guests of honor as a sign of thanks and recognition for all their dedication to serving and protecting the community.

“We’re very honored that the [parade committee] would choose us as grand marshals,” remarked Weslaco FD Chief Antonio Lopez.  “It’s so unexpected.  We’re used to working behind the scenes, serving the community.  A gesture like this, to be recognized for all our hard work, means a lot the department as a whole.”

Police Chief Stephen Mayer says that being recognized as grand marshals serves as validation for all the efforts of Weslaco’s first responders.

“What a tremendous honor to be selected as grand marshals for the Christmas Parade,” remarked Mayer. “ I am humbled to join the Fire Chief as we represent the first responders of the City of Weslaco.”

“To be recognized, in this way, by the community we serve, feeds a desire felt inside by us all,” Mayer continued.  “Moreover, it gives us resolve to continue to give our all in service to a grateful community.”

For the parade committee, the chance to recognize Weslaco’s police and fire departments is an honor in itself.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our policemen and firemen,” remarked Daryl Smith, parade committee chair. “They work hard to keep our city safe, and should be recognized as much as possible.”
